Description

When the craving for a hearty breakfast or brunch hits, nothing satisfies quite like a Biscuits & Gravy Hashbrown Casserole. This dish brings together the savory flavors of breakfast sausage, the creamy comfort of gravy, and the satisfying texture of hashbrowns. Topped with golden-brown biscuits and melted cheddar cheese, it’s an all-in-one meal that’s perfect for family gatherings or lazy weekend mornings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 can (16 oz) refrigerated biscuits, cut into quarters
  • 1 lb breakfast sausage
  • 2 cups frozen hashbrowns, thawed
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 2 cups milk
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp onion powder
  • ¼ tsp paprika

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat and Prepare

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking.

Step 2: Cook the Sausage

In a large skillet over medium heat, crumble and cook the breakfast sausage until it’s no longer pink. Drain any excess grease and spread the sausage evenly in the prepared baking dish.

Step 3: Layer the Hashbrowns

Spread the thawed hashbrowns evenly over the cooked sausage in the baking dish.

Step 4: Make the Gravy

Using the same skillet, reduce the heat to medium-low. Whisk together the flour, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, and paprika. Gradually whisk in the milk until smooth. Cook and stir until the mixture thickens to form a creamy gravy. Pour this over the sausage and hashbrowns.

Step 5: Add Biscuits and Cheese

Arrange the biscuit quarters evenly over the top of the casserole. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese over the biscuits.

Step 6: Bake

Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown and cooked through, and the cheese is bubbly.

Notes

Ensure your gravy thickens before adding it to the casserole to prevent a runny dish. Adjust the seasoning to taste, especially if you’re using a flavored sausage.
